Installation Guide
Installing your mural
Your mural is set like any ceramic tile, with standard thinset mortar and grout. Every tile arrives numbered, so it goes up exactly as designed.
Before you start
Unpack the tiles and check them against the numbered layout sheet. Lay the whole mural out dry on a clean floor, in order, so you and your installer can see how it goes together.
We recommend a professional tile installer for every mural, and especially for pools, floors and exterior walls.
What you need
- Thinset mortar suitable for ceramic tile (pool or exterior grade where needed)
- A notched trowel sized for your tiles
- Spacers, a level and a straight edge
- Grout, a grout float and a sponge
- Grout sealer for wet areas
Step by step
- Prepare the surface. It must be clean, dry, flat and sound. In showers and other wet areas, use a suitable backer board and waterproofing.
- Dry lay the mural. Arrange every tile in numbered order and check the picture reads correctly.
- Mark your guide lines. Find the center of the space and draw level and plumb lines to line the mural up.
- Set the tiles. Work in small areas, starting from the bottom row, and keep grout lines even with spacers.
- Let the mortar cure for the time the mortar maker recommends.
- Grout and clean. Wipe away the grout haze with a damp sponge as you go.
- Seal the grout in showers, pools and outdoor areas.
Always follow the instructions of your mortar and grout makers. They know their products best.

Tile care and cleaning
Clean your mural with water and a mild, non-abrasive cleaner and a soft cloth. Avoid scouring pads and harsh chemicals on the tile surface.
Seal grout lines in wet areas and reseal them from time to time, as you would with any tiled shower or backsplash.
Indoor and outdoor use
Our ceramic murals are rated for indoor and outdoor use and resist frost, heat and pool chemicals. They are made for kitchens, showers, floors, pools, spas, outdoor kitchens and garden walls.
For pools and exterior walls, use pool or exterior grade mortar and grout, and have a professional installer follow the practice for your climate, especially where there are freezing winters.
